Comedy comes to the rooftop of Redz
|
The Comedy Club, Caroline’s of Broadway, The Improv, The Laugh Factor, The Punchline, Redz of McDonough. What do all the above now have in common? For those not in the know, these are all well-known venues for local and nationally known comedians to perform live before an audience. No longer do the residents of Henry County and surrounding areas need to drive to the other side of Atlanta, to New York, or to Los Angeles to hear live comic entertainment. Beginning on Thursday, July 10, Redz Restaurant in McDonough will begin a limited series of live comedy shows. Owner of Redz, Quinn O’Neill, has made a name for his restaurant in the areas of fine dining, comfortable ambience, and the popular patio and rooftop dining. Now, he is adding another feature to his popular restaurant along with the continuing nightly live music and other special evenings. “Actually, my office manager first mentioned the idea of a comedy night to me and I began to talk to my customers about their thoughts,” said O’Neill. “Everyone had a positive response and assured me they would support it.” With the price of gasoline continuing to rise, local restaurants are all seeing some increase in business and O’Neill is hopng to capitalize on this trend. “I contacted one of the top booking agents in the country to contract with top talent. The comics we will be having are of the same caliber that you would see on Letterman, Kimmel, and other network programs,” says O’Neill. “I want to offer the best available to my customers and feel that they will be more than pleased with these first evenings.” Beginning on July 10, Marvin Lee will make his appearance on the Redz Roof. Lee is a “high energy, good natured, down to earth smart alec with a hidden dark side. He talks about everything from his multi-cultural family to the downfall of the Saturday morning cartoon. Lee takes subjects and twists them to his style of thinking. Does he have issues? He is a bi-racial kid, raised in the deep South who’s father was a Vietnam vet and mother worked for the post office. How could he have any issues?” Also appearing that night will be Russell Ehret as an opening act. “I think the patio venue is different and will be attractive for this type of event. If this proves popular, then I hope to add additional nights in the future,” says O’Neill. The programs will begin at 9:00 p.m. and reservations are preferred. The ticket for the comedy show is $10 per person, however, O’Neill is giving a $5 discount if you eat dinner at Redz. There will be an additional comedy night on Thursday, July 24, featuring Matthew Lumpkin and Patrick Jolle. For reservations to either evening, please call Redz at 770-914-5723. What a great way to support a local business and have an entertaining evening at the same time.
