06.18.08 Jackie Maloy McCormick Mrs. Jackie Maloy McCor-mick, age 72, of McDonough, Georgia died June 7, 2008. She was born in Henry County, the daughter of the late Mary Ruth and Thomas Daniel Maloy. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and dear friend who enjoyed gardening and especially raising tomatoes, cooking and watching cooking shows. Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by husband, Carl James Schaneman and several siblings. Survivors include her children, Tonia and Mike Cline of McDonough, Carl Schaneman of Zebulon, Chris Schaneman of Rex and Caroline Schaneman of Kennesaw; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren; brother, T. Raleigh Marvin Ford Mr. Raleigh Marvin Ford, age 93, of McDonough, Georgia died June 7, 2008. He was born in McDonough to the late Raleigh Franklin and Elizabeth Bonner Ford. Mr. Ford was a WWII veteteran. He loved the outdoors and was an avid Georgia Tech fan and had season tickets. But most important to him was his family. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Hazel Luella (Major) Ford of McDonough; sons, Eddie Ford of McDonough, Raleigh Calvin (Pam) Ford of Monticello; grandchildren, Denise (Jeff) Woodward of McDonough, Cal (Davina) Ford of McDonough, Stacy (Scott) Cronan of Monticello; seven great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; step-grandsons, Kevin Clark and Mark Pierce. Frances Allen Fannin Frances Allen Fannin, age 76, of McDonough, Georgia died June 13, 2008. Frances was born in Covington, the daughter of Lollie Avery Allen and Will (W.J.) Allen and was one of three children. Frances retired from Southern Bell after a 30-year career. She re-entered the workforce and worked for a number of years at Piedmont Moulding and subsequently, Sporty Lady, in Conyers. She was an active and dedicated member of Timberridge Presbyterian Church for 47 years. She was a loving “mother” to her family and to all children with whom she came into contact. She loved her flowers and doing for others. She was married for 46 years to Rogers Fannin who preceded her in death. Also, preceding her in death were her brother Willie Clifford Allen and seven half-brothers and sisters – Bessie Cawthon, Essie Watts, Nina Moore, Gertrude Rosser, Emmett, Linzy and Herman Allen. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law Mary Smith Alessandri and Al Alessandri of McDonough; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and god-daughter Leigh De Lozier, and her dear friend, Thurman Rivers. Marian Tomlinson Marian "Cookie" Tomlinson, age 81, of Stockbridge, Georgia died June 13, 2008. She was born in Sandersville to the late Carroll and Sarah McMillian Cook. She and her husband were members of the First Baptist Church of Stockbridge since 1968. She taught at Stockbridge Junior High until 1975, volunteered with the American Cancer Society and Henry County Meals On Wheels, was a member of the Stockbridge Garden Club, and the Young At Heart group at her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lyman Tomlinson and her brother, Herman Benton Cook. “Cookie” is survived by daughters, Gail and Fred Haney, Sherry Poirier, both of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Lindy Donahue and Kyle Haney; sister, Carolyn and Delbert Wilkes of Brunswick; sister-in-law, Pat Waguespack of McDonough; several nieces and nephews. Patricia Eleanor Hammond Oakes Mrs. Patricia Eleanor Hammond Oakes, age 69, of McDonough, Georgia died June 16, 2008. Mrs. Oakes was born in Lexington, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Bernice Beanblossom and Warren Hammond. Mrs. Oakes was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family and friends, quilting and fishing. Her husband, Raymond Oakes and brother, Lee Hammond preceded her death. Survivors include her children, Pam Tauber (Mike) of Stockbridge, Michele Mizzell (Chris) of Acworth and Doug Delzell (Donna) of McDonough; stepdaughter, Vickie Haskin (Bob) of Littleton, Colorado; eight grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Burns of Lexington, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews. Warner Phillips Warner Phillips, age 83, of Locust Grove, Georgia died June 16, 2008. He was born in Duluth to the late Charles Newton and Dessie Payne Phillips. Bobby Truelove Mr. Bobby Truelove, age 46, of Stockbridge, Georgia died Friday, May 30, 2008. He was born in Atlanta to Michael and Sarah Truelove. He was a member of First Christian Church, Stockbridge, an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, but most of all he was a family man who loved his wife and children. Bobby was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Truelove. James Lamar Freeman Mr. James Lamar Freeman, age 75, of McDonough, Georgia died June 2, 2008. He was born in Atlanta to the late Robert Leroy and Maggie Cleo Gray Freeman. He served his country in the United States Army; was a retired industrial printer; a member of Heatherwood Baptist Church in Riverdale; an avid runner, running 7 to 8 miles per day, and also having run the Peachtree Road Race over 20 times and the Marietta Labor Day Road Race over 12 times. Grover C. Futch, Jr. Mr. Grover C. Futch, Jr., age 83, of McDonough, Georgia died June 2, 2008. Mr. Futch was born September 16, 1924 in Bryan County, the sixth of eight children born to Cleveland and Esther Futch. The Futch family was one of the pioneering families in Southeast Georgia and he was also a descendent of three other families who were early settlers of this section of our state – Shuman, Downs and Woodcock. Mr. Futch was a member of the First Baptist Church of McDonough. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, parents, two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mildred Mercer Futch; son, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Futch of McDonough and grandchildren, Erin, Alan, Madison, Grant, and Garrett; daughter, Diane and Darryl Johnson of Watkinsville and grandchild, Josh Goodman; sister, Mrs. Mary Burnsed of Pembroke; many nieces, nephews; and a host of friends. Larry G. Greene Mr. Larry G. Greene, age 54, of Stockbridge, Georgia died Mon-day, June 2, 2008. He was born in Atlanta to the late Tommie and Grace Branch Greene. Mr. Greene was involved with the bus ministry and children’s church at his church. He was an all around sports enthusiast. But most important to him was attending church, spending time with his wife and his children and grandchildren. Robert C. Milligan Mr. Robert C. Milligan, age 89, of McDonough, Georgia died Monday, June 2, 2008. He was born in New York City, New York to the late Harold Vincent and Lucy Richardson Milligan. He was a Captain with the U.S. Public Health services and served our country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during WWII. His career was in public health, including several assignments for the World Health Organization. He had a passion for gardening most of his life. Mr. Milligan was also preceded in death by his wife, Jane Meyer Milligan. Eric Allan Love Mr. Eric Allan Love, age 37, of McDonough, Georgia died Wed-nesday, June 4, 2008. He was born in East Point. Mr. Love was a member of St. James The Apostle Catholic Church. He enjoyed scuba diving, boating, camping, working on his motorcycle, and building fish aquariums. He was a member of the Plumber’s and Pipe Fitter’s Local #72. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, he retired as an Air Traffic Controller with 40 plus years of service, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother who enjoyed his family, golf, traveling, cruises and gambling. Mack Cockrell Mr. Mack Cockrell, age 86, of McDonough, Georgia died May 26, 2008. He was the third of 15 children of the late Laura Maude Oswalt Cockrell and Roy Sylvester Cockrell of Taylor's Branch, Texas near Killeen. Mack was a 30-year veteran, enlisting in the Army Air Corps in January, 1942. He served in the Berlin Air Lift, Korean War, Vietnam, and many other assignments throughout Europe and the Pacific. He retired from the United States Air Force in July, 1973. He loved baseball, hunting, fishing, and golf. He was preceded in death by Janie Marie Hillyard Cockrell, Wilford Walker Cockrell, James Weldon Cockrell, Evelyn Marie Cockrell Mitchell, Leroy Cockrell, Gordon Allen Cockrell, and Elsie Arlene Cockrell Melville. Survivors include his wife, Marion Agnes Dietke Cockrell of McDonough; daughter Linda Sue Cockrell Christenson of McDonough; son Mickie Cockrell of Middleton, Idaho; brothers Norman, George, and Dick; and sisters Delrie, Tiny, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Katy. Antonio Negron Mr. Antonio Negron, age 70, of Hampton, Georgia died May 26, 2008. Mr. Negron was born in Puerto Rico, the son of the late Georgina Torres and Antonio Negron. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed his family and watching sports on TV. Mr. Negron was preceded in death by siblings, Ariel Negron, Ruben Negron and Miguel A. Negron. Oscar Junior Card Mr. Oscar Junior “J.C.” Card of McDonough, Georgia died May 27, 2008. He was born in Shuqualak, Mississippi, the son of the late Ada Mae Prisock and Andrew Jackson Card. Mr. Card was a self employed carpenter for 30 years, he served his country in the US Navy, was a member of The Village Church, enjoyed hunting, fishing, wrestling and story telling. Carol Ann Dowd Mrs. Carol Ann Dowd, age 63, of McDonough, Georgia, formerly of Fredericksburg, Virginia, died May 28, 2008. Mrs. Dowd was born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Mae Swope and Wilbur William Wilkin. She was a devoted homemaker, enjoyed being with her family and friends, she had an outgoing, loving personality, enjoyed her antique shop, shopping, and movies. Mrs. Dowd was a member of Saumsville Christian Church in Woodstock Virginia. John Harold Guy Mr. John Harold Guy, age 63, of McDonough, Georgia died May 29, 2008. Mr. Guy was born in Fairmont, Minnesota, the son of the late LaVonne Berneice Johnson and George Harold Guy. He retired with the US Army and the US Civil Service Department. He was a member of the Lake Spivey Senior Golf League, he enjoyed cooking and going to Biloxi. Mr. Guy was preceded in death by his wife, HyoSun Pak Guy and a brother, Larry Guy. John Cardwell John Cardwell, also known as "One Shot", age 82, of McDonough died May 24, 2008. He was born in LaGrange to the late John Robert and Bessie Iula Cardwell. Mr. Cardwell was a member of Eagles Landing First Baptist Church. John was an owner operator of Georgia Highway Express. John professionally drove his truck for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his spouse Chloe Culpepper Cardwell. Mr. Bagby served his country in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948; and in the United States Coast Guard from 1948 to 1965. He was a member of the McDonough First United Methodist Church. He was an avid reader who enjoyed fly tying, hunting, and gardening. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Kate Bagby. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Louise Bagby of McDonough; children, Karen (Bruce) Dietrich of Tallahassee, Florida, Pamela Bagby of Cuthbert, John (Pepper) Bagby of Locust Grove, Lora Bagby of McDonough; grandchildren, Drew and Kurt Dietrich, Amanda, Devin, and Jonathan Bagby; sisters, Sarah Gainey of Tallahassee, Florida, Henrietta Lucas of Aiken, South Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews. George served proudly in the United States Marine Corp, receiving his discharge in 1962 at Quantico, Virginia. He retired from the Ohio Youth Commission and is a World War II and Korean War Veteran. He was a member of Rodney United Methodist Church, Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Columbus, Ohio, avid amateur radio operator and train enthusiast. Carolyn graduated from Eastern Mich-igan University and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She retired from the BMA Dialysis Center in Naples; was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples; and attended St. James the Apostle Catholic Church while in McDonough. She enjoyed woodworking and craft shows. She was preceded in death by a son, David Michael Ludack. Wendell H. Rose Mr. Wendell H. Rose, age 66, of McDonough, Georgia died April 22, 2008. He was born in Clintwood, Virginia to the late Linden Clarence and Dossie (Fleming) Rose. Mr. Rose attended Henry Baptist Church. He loved studying his Bible, gospel music and attending the three yearly reunions. He was a man of many talents, including plumbing, maintenance work and automotive upholstery. But most important to him was gathering with friends and family, especially watching and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He retired from Northwest Airlines and became involved with different senior groups and was always on the go. He loved to square dance, enjoyed golfing, traveling, and doing things with his friends. Mr. Whitaker was a Navy veteran. He loved to play golf and enjoyed gardening. But most important to him was his family; especially his grandson. Mildred Fowler Powell Mrs. Mildred Fowler Powell, age 83, of McDonough, Georgia died April 10, 2008. Mrs. Powell was born in Worth County the daughter of the late Alton G. and Argie Branch Fowler. She was a member of Flippen United Methodist Church. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Powell; brothers, Ellis Fowler, Carson Fowler and Joseph Fowler. Daniel Butler Ahler, Jr. Mr. Daniel (Bud) Butler Ahler, Jr., age 90, died April 12, 2008. Bud was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, the eldest of the six children of Daniel B. Ahler, Sr. and Caroline Margaret (Yagel) Ahler. Bud served in the Army Air Corps working as a pilot and then took these skills to the Bendix Corporation as field service engineer after being honorably discharged. Before retiring from Bendix in 1982, Bud traveled extensively lending his expertise to many projects, including the C-5A military transport’s landing gear and the SR-71 in the 1960s with Lockheed. Bud was a long time resident of East Point and a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hapeville, prior to moving to McDonough several years ago to be closer to his daughter Marian, who was his care giver in his final years. His wife, Mona Lee (Ware) Ahler, preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother Harold Joseph Ahler of Frankfort, Kentucky, his sister Eileen Frances Ahler of Jackson, New Jersey, and his two daughters, Marian Eileen Ahler of McDonough, and Karen Lee Ahler of Louisville, Kentucky. Charles Edward Johnson Mr. Charles Edward Johnson, age 81, of McDonough, Georgia died April 12, 2008. Mr. Johnson was born in Fulton County, the son of the late Marie Pelot and James Lee Johnson. Mr. Johnson served his country in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. He retired from Sears with 32 years of service. He was an active member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard and cooking. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Clifford Johnson. Marilyn Louise Ensley Cheshire Mrs. Marilyn Louise Ensley Cheshire, age 60 of Jackson, Georgia died April 13, 2008. She was born in Murphy, North Carolina to the late Floyd R. Ensley Jr. and the late Lucille Campbell Ensley. Marilyn was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hampton, where she taught Sunday School and the Children’s Church Service. She enjoyed reading and cooking. She was preceded in death by a brother, Doug Ensley and a sister, Oneta Ensley. Terry Clark Mr. Terry Clark, age 60, of Locust Grove, Georgia died April 14, 2008. He was born in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Tobe and Bertha Clark. Mr. Clark was formerly a firefighter, served as fire chief, was an instructor with the Arkansas Fire Training Academy and an adjutant with the National Fire Training Academy. He was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church, a Mason, a Shriner and a member of Henry Medical Center Auxillary. Terry was a wonderfully unique man. He loved his God, he loved his family and he loved people. Some of his most treasured moments were spent outdoors hunting and fishing. He could talk to kings as easily as paupers, and most of all he had the gift of mercy which the Lord used every day to help whomever came into his life. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Troy Clark and Dwight Clark. 04.09.08 Clem H. Fortner Clem H. (Foots) Fortner, age 90, of McDonough, Georgia, died March 14, 2008. He retired in 1967, after more than 26 years of service with the Atlanta Police Department attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He then worked for almost twenty years with the Fulton County Public Defender's Office as an investigator. He was a Ham Radio Operator (K4PKQ), a member of Grant Park Masonic Lodge, the International Brotherhood of Magicians, past-president of the Georgia Magic Club Ring 9, the Atlanta Society of Magicians, the North Amer-ican Association of Ventril-oquists, Fraternal Order of Police, Peace Officers Association of Georgia, and Saint Joseph's Episcopal Church. Mr. Fortner, known as "Fortner the Merry Magician," was a professional magician for more than sixty-five years. He was a master of the craft of close-up magic, ventriloquism and mentalism. He generously gave his time to help budding magicians learn the craft of magic and ventriloquism. Mr. Fortner was preceded in death by Ruby Ridling Fortner, his wife of sixty years. Survivors include daughter, Judy Carole Fortner Stone of McDonough, son, Thomas H. (Tom) Fortner; granddaughters, Terri Echols Santacroce and Christie Shackelford Jarrio; grandsons, Charles H. Randy Scarborough Mr. Randy Scarborough, age 72 of Stockbridge, Georgia died March 19, 2008. He was born in Florida to the late Charlie Elrod and Verdie Bloodworth Scarborough. He served his country in the United States Navy and retired after 27 years with Delta Airlines. Randy enjoyed fishing, traveling, and golf. Robert Edgar Ausband, Sr. Robert Edgar “Eddie” Ausband, Sr., age 71, of McDonough, died April 1, 2008. He was born in Atlanta to the late Pearl Earnest and Mary Lee Owen Ausband of Kelleytown. Eddie served in the United States Army. He graduated from Henry County High School in 1955 and the University of Georgia in 1959 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He began his professional career in pharmaceutical sales in 1963, and he retired as a regional Vice President after thirty-seven years with the same company. Eddie was a member of the First Baptist Church of McDonough. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, and Sunday School Teacher. His life was devoted to his faith and his loving and devout wife of forty-eight years, his family, his passion for travel, and family vacations in Longboat Key, Florida, Crested Butte, Colorado, and Jackson Lake. Mr. Hamby was born in DeKalb County, the son of the late Lillie Mae Lee and Leon Doris Hamby. He retired from Delta Air Lines as an aircraft mechanic and he served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for 13 plus years. Mr. Hamby was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a University of Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed playing golf. Survivors are his wife, Mary Hamby of McDonough; children, Douglas Lee Hamby, Jr., William Neal Hamby, John Bradford Hamby, Ann Laurie Palka; step children, Andre Rene Champagne, Christopher Aime Champagne, and Noel Hector Champagne; sisters, Kathy Frost and Judy Turner; brother, Robert Hamby; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Ginnie Booth Ginnie Booth, age 57, of McDonough, Georgia died March 16, 2008. She was born in Mobile, Alabama to the late Harry and Ann Laurie Dozier Shirah. She loved art, history (biblical history was her favorite) and of course, coffee. She also loved her labradoodle dog, Winter. Ms. Booth is survived by her sons, Jackson (Stacy) Booth of McDonough and Jeff (Meg) Booth of Valdosta; grandchildren, Noah, Lindsey, Camryn, Hanna, and Nathan; brothers, Dan (Freda) Shirah of Birmingham, Skip (Maureen) Shirah and Mike Shirah, both of Mobile, Alabama. Harold Don Gilliam, Sr. Mr. Harold Don Gilliam Sr., age 73, of McDonough, Georgia died March 17, 2008. Mr. Gilliam was born in Cordele, the son of the late Nellie Boalch and R.D. Gilliam. He served his country in the US Navy. Mr. Gilliam was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his family and friends. He was a hard working individual who was self employed in construction most of his working career. Mr. Gilliam enjoyed dancing, cars, fishing, riding the countryside, and sharing jokes. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Shane Gilliam. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Gilliam of McDonough; children, Vickie Gilliam of Hampton, Donna Gilliam of McDonough, and Harold (Allyson) Gilliam, Jr. , Kim (Todd) Steele and Todd Gilliam, all of McDonough; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren; brothers, R. Lois Jackson Lois Jackson, age 78, of McDonough, Georgia died March 18, 2008. She was born in Coffee County to the late Freeman and Ethel Wilcox Taylor. She was a devoted wife of 63 years and a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Jackson was also preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Ann Free-man; grandson, Leonard Edward Todd; sister, Inez Taylor; and brother, Felton Taylor. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband, Ed Jackson; daughters, Elaine (Billy) Hobby, Betty Lois (Vernon) Waters, all of McDonough; grandchildren, Joel Hobby, Kristi Seagraves, Curtis Waters, Brian Waters; seven great grandchildren; siblings, Willie Mae Hutto and Ruby Thompson, both of McDonough, Bernice Smith of Baxley, Paul Taylor of Ludowici, Velma Miness of Hinesville and Sarah Mosley of Ludowici.
